We have moved

Hi everyone, Sue and I have moved to Montagu in the Western Cape after fifty six years in Swaziland. We moved down in January this year and are enjoying it. The winters are somewhat cooler than Ezulwini.

We had the pleasure of having a visit from Graham Vass and his wife Megan in June, we had not seen each other since around the mid sixties. I see most of us ex St Marks pupils are on facebook and so many have met up with old friends.

Greetings to All !

Have just found site and really enjoyed having my memory refreshed by the various names that leaped out. Talk about 'blast from the past'. My brother Ian and I were at St Marks from Feb 68 through till Dec 71. Does anyone recall the class of 71. How we ran amok on our last day of term! There used to be a teacher whose name escapes me. I think her nickname was 'Thunderthighs' ( weren't we a cruel bunch back then ! ) Anyway we manually lifted her Austin 1100 ( I think ! ) onto the roundabout outside Alice Vine before proceeding to 'frog-march' most of the occupants of the staff room one by one to the swimming pool for a celebratory dunking - fully clothed of course! Thinking back - what a wonderful bunch they all were - all took it in the spirit it was intended and left a lasting impression on me on how to endure being on the receiving end with dignity! Have so many memories to share and hope some of you will remember us. Look forward to hearing from you and posting further anecdotes in the future.

We are planning a reunion back in Swaziland in October 2008 and will be visiting the old school on one of the days there! We meet in Jo'Burg to travel by coach to Swaziland on Friday 24 October, returning to Jo'Burg on either 29/30th October. If you would like to join us for this fabulous trip, please e mail me as many of us are going from the UK and from Australia a few days earlier and spending time with old friends in Jo'Burg who will then be joining us for the trip to Swaziland. For anyone living in Swaziland, we hope that you will join us for the trips aorund the kingdom and the reunion dinners and braais!

The website is looking fantastic and will continue to grow through increased membership, contributions and the hard work of the trustees. Please help the fund to grow also by donating towards your school through the secure PayPal link on the homepage or e-mailing john.oshea@stmarks-swaziland.com for more details. Every donation, no matter how small, is very welcome. We look forward to publishing photos of the building work as we head towards the reunion at St. Mark's in August 2010 when the school celebrates it's Centenary. Current balance is around £1,330 and the target is around £12,000 to build the first classroom. All money raised is for the school. Trustees meet time and running expenses from their own income.

Ralph had throat cancer. Sadly he died after having surgery.

UK Fundraising

I would like to help out with fundraising in the UK. My company promtes community fundraisers and I am sure we could make a significant contribution to the £1k already raised.

The only requirements is that you (the charity) have a uK bank account for us to deposit the money in. It costs £25 to register the charity which I am happy to pay myself.

Could somone contact me to see if we can take this further?
